Blog Introduction

Hey, you...

✨Welcome to the Whimsical Waves blog✨

If there's one thing that I learned this year, it's that even though life is unexpected, life is also what you make of it. (But not in the way that Joe Goldberg from the Netflix series, "You", makes it out to be though... he's on a whole different level of what life is for him).

We can get so lost in the everyday duties of life and because of it's demanding nature, it can be easy to fall into patterns that do not serve us like mindlessly scrolling on social media for a bunch of ungodly hours, and/or going back into a habit that feels comfortable but we know deep down isn't good for us. Regardless of what it is, the distraction isn't going to make what you're trying to run away from go away.

Within the waves of life, sometimes, we can't control how things are going to go. Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day yet everyone on this earth experienced today in a different way. All we can do is focus on the things we can control in our own lives. There's this one quote that stuck with me the day I read it. It goes...

"Only dead fish goes with the flow."

And that's where the whimsical aspect of it all comes in.

Regardless of the ups and downs that occur in life, I chose to see it from a perspective of it being whimsical. Ever since I was kid, I had a passion for writing among other things but I would only express that within journaling, school, work, and for personal purposes only. However, I've always wanted to create a blog and write about the aspects of my life that you may relate to and/or get insight on.

As a spiritual person, I truly believe we're all connected in a way. That's why karma exists and things that we do (or may not do) to others eventually comes back to us because what you're doing to someone else is actually you doing that to yourself. That's why that famous saying of "what goes around, comes back around" is very potent. (But I feel I'm getting a bit off topic so we'll resume this karma talk for another time, place, and post 😉).

But that burning passion inside of me had no choice but to roar out of me and can no longer be contained. And so, voila 🪄 this blog was born.

As I said in my About Me page, I majored in journalism when I went to college because it wasn't some childhood hobby- it was and still is my purpose. So here's to honoring my inner child while navigating the flow of life.

And I hope you do the same.

Regardless of who you are, your age, what you look like, and what you believe (or not believe) in, all I ask is for you to come as you are. Being ourselves is all we can be so, why fight it?

Don't be a dead fish. Don't die before you're dead.

Life is yin and yang- there's good with the bad and bad with the good. As said previously, life is unexpected and that's what I want this blog to shed light on. To speak about the aspects of what we may think to ourselves but never truly say out loud. To provide enlightenment on experiences I've went through in life that you've may have too or are currently going through.

Nonetheless, I hope there's something in it that you can positively take away to think about. Also, if you have any thoughts on what you'd like for me to write about, let me know here. I'm always open to ideas.

I hope you grow with me in this journey as we ride (pause 🤭) the waves of this thing we all try our best to navigate called life.

Happy metaphorically surfacing 🤙🏾,

-Ruth
